Business Attraction (Restaurants)

Five people discussed the need to attract more businesses, including restaurants that can serve as community gathering places. The group spent most of its time sharing memories of family style restaurants that served as community gathering places before closing. The group is unsure of how to proceed or the role Ellettsville Main Street could have.

I hope to see a "Village Inn" type restaurant come to town. I heard many people during the Fall Festival say they miss the VI as a source of news.
Anxious to see the results of the survey from Redevelopment.

A way to attract business, including restaurants, to Ellettsville is for the Town Council to pass a comprehensive smoke-free ordinance that prohibits smoking in workplaces and public places. As long as Ellettsville is viewed as an unhealthy alternative to communities with smoke-free ordinances, businesses will be reluctant to invest in Ellettsville. Given the soaring health care costs experienced by businesses, they would prefer to open new businesses in communities with a demonstrated committment to health.

Eagles Landing Mall in town has very reasonable rents and a locally owned restaurant may do well there. I've stopped in this Mall before and there are several other businesses in there as well.

Granted, a drawback is they're on a one way street and by the time you see it you're almost past the entrance. Better signage west of the mall would be a big help, but I've heard the town is very hard to deal with regarding signs, etc.

But if a restaurant did go in, it would probably catch on quickly provided they had good service and good food. Create a nice atmosphere for families to gather.

Parking is the big issue with business coming downtown. The town must NOW buy some of the old houses, tear them down. and put in a parking lot, esp. since the parking that was in the plan originally for the 46E redo was changed.
